Psychedelic trance is a style of music that has evolved into a worldwide culture. Throughout the world in places like India, Israel and Brazil psychedelic trance isn’t just a style of music, it’s a way of life. Since it has made its way into the United States it has been growing each year, but 2017 has by far been the year it truly has blossomed. More and more psychedelic trance festivals have been popping up all across the country, but it’s not just about the quantity. The quality of these events has been out of this world, showcasing some of the best psychedelic trance artists in the world, mixed with some of the best art, decor installations, visionary artists, holistic teachers, and performers.

The time has finally come for the United States where psychedelic trance is no longer just a style of music, it is a culture.

We have compiled a list of Current PsyTrance Events organized according to state in the USA. Please note that some underground organized events may not be stated in this article because they are hiding deep within the underground scene or they have not been active in 2017 and based out of the USA.

THE RECORD LABEL SPOTLIGHT OF 2017 GOES TO:

T.O.U.C.H. Samadhi

“…pioneering a revolutionary understanding of the nature of consciousness…striving to discover who we are beyond our thoughts, emotions, memories, associations, and perceptions…Samadhi is said to be a fourth kind of consciousness: It is beyond the states of waking, dreaming and dreamless sleep. Those who have witnessed it as an external phenomenon report that the experience appeared to have fallen into a kind of trance. The hair on the head and body stood erect. The half-closed eyes became fixed. Sometimes there was an astonishing loss of weight or even levitation of the body from the ground. But these are mere symptoms, and tell us nothing. There is only one way to find out what samadhi is like: You must have it yourself”

DECO ARTISTS

You know that feeling when you run to the dancefloor of a PsyTrance Event and you just get transported to a completely different world and in that different world there is no such thing as “judgments”, and everything is possible again? That feeling and that different psychedelic world comes from all of the hard work that goes into every piece and inch of Deco from the Artists that creates it. Big or small, Deco is an important essential part of psychedelic events, especially PsyTrance Events. The deco is what transforms the regular world we are so familiar with, into a world filled with mystical flowers, floating creatures, cocooned sanctuaries, and psychedelic universes that we have never seen before. Deco is our communities’ way of saying we’re different from the rest of the world. It’s everyone’s magical world within our regular world and that’s what makes PsyTrance so magically beautiful. We get to be different in beautifully psychedelic ways!

I’ve gone ahead and created a list of some of the beautiful Deco Crews in the USA that we had the pleasure of being in contact with. Be sure to check out some of their beautiful artwork and keep your eye out for their artwork at the events when you come and visit the USA:

THE DECO CREW SPOTLIGHT OF 2017 GOES TO:

The Reliquarium

“The Reliquarium online represents a space between spaces. It is a digital archive containing relics of life and death, of the dream that we are all part of. Each creation under the Reliquarium is a ritual done in reverence to the undying beauty and immense power that exists within the cycle of creation. The processes of life, growth, and death are infused within every aspect of our lives, and we of the Reliquarium strive in all aspects of our work to allow such processes to guide and define our own practice. Thus we draw from the abundant beauty of the natural world, in the things many see as dead and gone. We create relics, effigies of concepts fossilized within our cultural zeitgeist to generate questions about how we live and die and what it means to be human.” – The Reliquarium

PARTY TIMES

When it comes to indoor parties they usually start on Friday or Saturday at 8-10pm and end anywhere from 4-10am. Indoor Holiday Parties typically have the same hours of operation as the non-holiday parties, but can be on a weird day, like Sunday or Monday. When it comes to festivals they typically start on either Thursday or Friday and begin sometime in the early afternoon sometime after 12pm and they usually end on Sunday in the late evening around 5-7pm.

PRICES FOR EVENTS

INDOOR PARTIES (Non-Holiday)

Range from: $25-$40

INDOOR PARTIES (Holiday)

Range from: $30-$100

FESTIVALS

Range from: $75-$300

AFTERPARTY CULTURE

Afterparties are typically done in people’s homes. When you are at an event, just ask a friend if they know of any people doing an afterparty. Sometimes you have to do a little bit of searching and asking before the afterparties actually reveal themselves. Home afterparties or motel/hotel afterparties are typically always the most fun. They tend to have a little more intimacy and socialization, so you get to make friends and mingle a little bit more. Some people here actually wait for afterparties because they really enjoy the intimacy rather than loud clubs where you can barely hear the person standing next to you. I think they’re both great! Almost all of us PsyTrancers enjoy afterparties here.

DRUG SCREENING

Drug Screening is pretty serious on a federal level. For instance, weed is illegal according to the FEDs. So basically every other drug is illegal unless it was prescribed to you. Personally, I would suggest not trying to fly with any drugs, unless you have prescribed medication from a doctor. The FEDs or “Air Police” may even ask you for proof of your prescription medicine. The FEDs are serious business, so flying under their radar is probably your safest bet.

When it comes to the State Law though, Weed (Marijuana) might be seen differently. Some states allow for recreational use, some only allow for medical use, and some states may not allow marijuana use at all.

In the USA the Government has created a “war on drugs”, so please don’t go asking random strangers for drugs. Also be sure to check with the State you are residing in for their Laws on Weed, before openly smoking a joint in front of a cop on the streets. You can use google for all of your answers typically. Usually, with the states that allow recreational marijuana use, you just have to be 21+ and can carry up to an ounce, but always check first.

When it comes to Drug Testing, our court systems can do a Urine Analysis, also known as a UA to test for almost everything. There also is a hair follicle test that can go years back into your drug use history.

After Festivals and events, it’s always smart to make sure that you are completely sober before traveling, and/or you always have a designated driver that is sober. Cops have stopped people’s vehicles and searched through their cars because the people in the car had “festival or event wristbands” on. For some reason, the cops say that’s a probable cause to have them search you, so if you want to be extra safe just cut your wristband off and never carry drug paraphernalia.  Don’t even drive with open beer cans or bottles of alcohol. Cops will arrest you. Like I said the cops and government in our country are very serious about their “war on drugs”.

PHO 32 is my Favorite PHO spot to eat in New Jersey. It’s open 24/7. My favorite soup to order from PHO32 is the “PH3. Brisket, Flank, and Soft Tendon Pho” (not vegan). http://pho32shabufortlee.com

If you have time to stop by Seattle, WA stop by a PHO restaurant called “Dong Thap Noodles”. You can compete to eat the “Pho Super Bowl” which is today known as the world’s biggest bowl of pho soup. Winners get $100s plus their names mounted on the restaurant’s wall. I couldn’t find their website, but here’s their address:  303 12th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Name:
Mickayla Miner - Founder of Spirit Tribe
City:
New York - USA
His/Her role in the Psytrance community:
I am the co-founder and co-organizer of Spirit Tribe and Native Noise Festival. Spirit Tribe was created by my loving husband and myself. Spirit Tribe is a Tribal Community and online spiritual shop. Our foundation is Love, Family, Friends, Creativity, and Tribalism. ♥ Spirit Tribe is known for hosting Native Noise Festival, a PsyTrance Festival in New York that is solely based upon peace, love, unity, respect, and responsibility. We welcome families and animals to our Festival because we believe that families should be together for something as beautiful as a Family Festival. The public is always welcome to our events. We love meeting new people who have never been to a PsyTrance event. It's probably one of our favorite things. On top of being an organizer, I also am a Fire Performer, Interactive Character Performer, Photographer, Graphic Designer, Costume Designer, Deco Creator, and Promoter. Anything I can do I will do for my events, my community, and any of the events in the other USA PsyTrance communities. I am a strong believer that even though PsyTrance has many small crews and communities, PsyTrance as a whole is one big Family! That's what makes us different from the rest of the music scenes.
Info about the author:
Hey guys, My name is Mickayla! I am one of the organizers of the New York PsyTrance Community. I founded Spirit Tribe with my loving husband to help continue the PsyTrance Movement around the world, especially in the USA. On top of being a PsyTrance Fanatic, I have a strong passion for helping animals in need and being with my adorable Daughter and Puppy. I am also, the Founder of FIRE and ICE - Mickayla and Mahoe. I founded FIRE and ICE due to my love of playing with fire and LEDs. FIRE and ICE(Leds) started as MICA and has grown now to include one my best friends as another performer, Mahoe. I love performing and making costumes that match. It always helps add a little bit of spunk to the events.

    • This is a user generated post and not official mushroom magazine content - Please ask the author for changes or use the editor at www.mushroom-magazine.com/editor to create your own post. Thanks.
      • Sooo true. Every year "California...... California....... California........maybe one east coast crew........ maybe one east coast person's name......" Ohmygawd now there's a list of crews that have never been mentioned before and they're actually being given recognition they've never had... how dare us give other hardworking people recognition lmao
  • It's a pity the author of this article was not open to suggested additions of some more DJs and producers. After I offered some suggestions, as this is a very hard article to write,  she deleted me without comment, and removed me from the "well known DJs and producers" section and moved to the bottom of the list (Khromata). The author did not respond to my inquiry as to why this happened, and my suggestions were not taken, so I have to respond here. Anyway, suggested additions:This is not a comprehensive list by any means, but it is a highlight of notable producers from the U.S.A that have gained national and international acclaim (alphabetical order). • This article is beyond repair. Why give a bunch of drug references as well? Drugs don't make psytrance. "The Golden Carrol"? Really? I guess I'm glad this was misspelt: we really don't need to be actually sending people to the Golden Corral. This is missing tons of arists. The "record labels" aren't even all record labels! No releases. The US artists that play mostly internationally have been completely left out. Major southern organizing crews have been left out.Lots of things weren't left out that really shouldn't be there.Facepalm.
    • They asked for music, art, labels, performers, party times, prices, after party culture, drug screening, how to travel to the US, activities outside of parties, best places to stay, best places to eat, etc. It was a full report, each section of this article was what the template mushroom magazine asked for this article. Also many are left out every year, for the past few years many of the top DJ's and prodcuers on the East Coast were completely left out. As well as many crews who have been hosting the most events and biggest events in scenes like New York.
  • I’ve been in the New York scene since 97. The author and her husband are relatively new in town and are kind of enthusiastic self-marketers and it sort of, um, shows.  Their heart is mostly in the right place though so it’s all good.   Peeps in Mexico and Europe and India are waaaaY sketchier than these cats.
  • 'And the 2017 performer spotlight goes to..... the author of this article herself!' HahahahaThis woman is clearly delusional. Psy is NOT thriving in the states and pretending that it's doing well isn't going to improve the scene.Nobody likes it when first timers hang around after events trying to get invited to after parties.Nobody should ever fly from overseas specifically to check out the psy scene in the states. Why mention the war on drugs in a published article? That's highly unprofessional and could lead to cops targeting parties even more than they already doAnd who the fuck wants to do basic ass american things like go to Disneyland or six flags after a festival?Just another example of the top notch 'journalism' Mushroom Magazine has to offer. This article is a great comedy piece.
    • Might want to let mushroom magazine know that what they're asking for in their articles is dumb because I answered their questions. Who wants to know all of the above? People who don't live here and mushroom magazine. I might be delusional, but I guess you're even more delusional seeing how you have to be a negative nancy about the realities of our States. Should people that are traveling here not be aware that the states don't allow or condone drug use? Do they deserve to go to jail because no one told them the truth about our laws? No, they deserve to know the truth. Your username is "AntiAmerican" lol.... If you hate America why get involved with anything related to America? Hypocrite much?
    • They asked for music, art, labels, performers, party times, prices, after party culture, drug screening, how to travel to the US, activities outside of parties, best places to stay, best places to eat, etc. It was a full report, each section of this article was what the template mushroom magazine asked for this article.
  • The response that the article has gotten from 95% of people who have read it has been amazing. Unfortunately there is 5% that have their opinion on what should be included, but the responses have been very ego driven saying that they or people they know deserve to be mentioned more than others. Remember there is more out there than what you know. There may be very popular DJ's and Producers on the West Coast, but if you ask people who are on the East Coast they would have no idea who they are and the same goes for anyone who is popular on the East Coast, people out West may not have ever heard of them. We live a a huge country with hard working people providing their talents to their local scenes. One does not deserve more than another just because they are popular in their scene. If you travel to a different part of the country they are no longer the most popular. Each subject point of this article was asked in the template sent by Mushroom Magazine. So if you should not question the author for including music, art, labels, performers, party times, prices, after party culture, drug screening, how to travel to the US, activities outside of parties, best places to stay, best places to eat, etc. It was all asked of the author to include in the full report.I have been organizing psytrance events and festivals now for 6 years. I have hosted them under both Respect Gatherings and Spirit Tribe. In total I have organized 5 outdoor festivals and 60 indoor events. On the East Coast they have been some of the most memorable festivals. Every year Mushroom Magazine would be published I never saw any recogonition of my crew, the festivals I organized, the events I hosted or anything at all. I would check to see who wrote it and majority of the years it was published by a member of the California scene. Though I had put so much hard work into what I was doing for several years and thought that my crew, festival or any work that I had done deserved to be published in the USA country report, not once did I complain, say that I deserve to be on there more than another or most of all criticize the writer of the article to the point of what seems harrassing. Every year someone from the East Coast shares the article and talks about how it is always heavily favored to the West Coast DJ's, crews and festivals. That so many of the dj's, crews and people who work all year round to create events get left out every year. The response to her sharing what she has worked has been rude. Certain members of different parts of the country could have very well petitioned previous years because of its lack of balance and not including vital parts of the US psy community. She was open to suggestions on what more to add, but in return she got harrasing, sexist and just overall rude responses from people basically saying that the people that were mentioned in the article weren't as deserving as them. Take a moment and remember what it is you do and why you do it. Is it really worth putting someone down and trying to belittle them because your name or crew wasn't listed. When it has been listed every other year and this year there is some fresh names on the list, who have never been listed and work just as hard. Would you put your family down or your child down like that. Treat others how you would like to be treated.
  • I just can’t belive that so much hate is coming out of the psy scene. All this east/ west coast should stay in the violent rap scene. Despite me being in the New York scene for a very short time ( about a year) I can say that the author of this article is definitely not trying to self promote She has included a bunch of crew that target the same crowd as hers ( sometimes on the same day) I must say that I am very happy with the love and cooperation that is shared between the crews in the New York area Love to all of you, on both sides Hope you have a great New Years party , wherever you are
  • I appreciate the time and effort that went into making this article.  Sad to see people in the US psytrance scene tearing others in the scene down.
  • Many thanks to our user Mickayla for providing us with so much information about the US Psytrance Community, I would like to ask all people who have comments on Mickayla's article to send your requests directly to the author via email to MicaPerformingArts@Gmail.com. I'm sure that any kind request is welcome and the info will be added.  Additionally I ask you not to mock the work of Mickayla. This really doesn't fit the values of our community. Before you write an insulting comment please think about what you are doing.
  • Can I see examples of Mikayla Minor's decoration installs as we are looking for a new crew to design our mainstage and surrounding areas at our events.

Thanks to our festival sponsors for their support in our work for the Psytrance community!
