The power of the wolf brings forth instinct, intelligence, appetite for freedom, and awareness of the importance of social connections. Wolf power or spirit animals point to an appetite for freedom and living life powerfully, guided by instincts. When a wolf manifests its presence as a guide in your life, it could be a call to live your life more freely, to bring the intensity of passion in your everyday endeavors.
Bold, powerful, lonely, mistrustful, predator, quiet, dangerous, fast as lightning, careful, family-oriented, social, loyal, conqueror, consistent, free, wild, and beautiful … a wolf.
In his novel “The last Europeans” Dragos Kalajic wrote about the symbolism of the wolf: “The wolf embodies a complex and diverse human force well, it’s most noticeable manifestation is its innate need for freedom as a basic life condition… It is impossible to tame a wolf, make it dependent and obedient, unlike its distant relative – the dog. It is impossible because the wolf is much smarter. A wolf’s strong sense of self regard and pride, which comes from its freedom, is unrivaled among animals and a vast majority of people. A wolf doesn’t put up with any compromises as it is going against its nature. I would say that in that wolf’s trait lies the true cause of hatred enjoyed by those that envy other people’s love for freedom and nobility, because they do not possess it.”
However, it is undeniable that the strongest bond between a man and a wolf can be found in Slavic mythology, where the wolf was a totem animal and was considered a master of the forest, animals and birds. An interesting fact is that the wolf is considered to be the mythical ancestor of the Serbian people, which is why, come as no surprise, the personal name Vuk (Wolf) is actually a quite frequent name among the Serbs. The symbolism is clear and conveys a strong, unconstrained character, in need of freedom, rebellious, unyielding, resourceful and with superior intelligence.
History has taught us that the wolf is a dangerous, but, also, a noble animal, at the same time a friend and a beast, the one that chases us and the one that protects us. A lot of contradictions, you might say! By all appearances, it is impossible to tame a wolf, make it dependent and obedient. In that sense, the wolf can really seem like a moody loner. If we take a deeper look, psychologically speaking, the wolf symbolizes someone who just has high standards and does not tolerate betrayal.
In other words, the wolf reminds us that all of us have an animal side, and there is no shame in showing it and your deepest emotions. Only to the chosen ones, of course, because, after all, the wolf feels the safest in his own pack!
