D-ther is the solo project of the Belgian producer Diether Verheyen.
He started going to music school at the age of 8 where he practiced playing the piano and drums. At the age of 12 he stopped going to music school but always kept the interest in music so later on he graduated as a teacher in music education.
Always looking for powerful music, he found his way into the Psy-Trance scene.
His music can best be described as powerful Psychedelic Trance.
After a few years of producing in the studio, he introduced himself and his music into the Belgian Psytrance scene and he already had the opportunity to play at different parties and festivals all over Belgium and Europe. After two smashing EP releases on GreenTree Records & Profound Records, he was invited by GRASSHOPPER Records to join their family where he had just released his EP “The Distortion Multiverse”.

Your life-story and relationship with your work

Tell us a little about you and your work:
Well, I’m very happy to tell you that I’m a fulltime teacher in music education. My life is music and I absolutely love it! I guess there’s not many people who can say that they made their hobby their job. In the evenings I’m still practicing jazz piano in music school and I’ve also joined a band. It’s great to keep linking the new stuff I learn to Psy-Trance and it’s also great that work never gets boring with me.

Currently what projects are you working on? And what future plans have you chalked out for yourself?:
Next to working on some tracks for my project D-THER, I’m also hosting a few events a year here in Belgium. I’m really interested in organizing parties and just trying to get everything right. I not only want beautiful visuals but also a descent soundsystem, nice locations, .. and so on. I’m trying to give the people the best experience every time and I’m happy I’ve received some great responses on my past events. Musicwise I’ll be focussing on some more VS tracks with artists like Virtual Light and KIM. Sometimes I’m producing downtempo/psybient music as well. It’s just fun to make and I often give that stuff away for free so don’t forget to check out my chillout soundcloud page.

What influenced you to get into your field?:
Well that’s pretty easy to answer: Music!

As an artist, what role do you think you play in society?:
I love sharing ideas and tricks with people that share the same interest. I love sitting together with producers that come to me with their music. I’m always open to help if they want my tips and tricks and I’m always very happy to learn some new stuff from them as well.

Share your experiences and your characteristics/personality

Everybody’s got favourites…so what’s your favourite work/piece among everything that you’ve designed/produced/dj-ed/created? (Link us up!):
I’ve learned a lot in the past years. As a teacher I have the whole summer free and I really took that opportunity to lock myself up in the studio. I recently joined Grasshopper Records and I’m a real fan of all their releases and the artists on the label so I really needed to push myself to match their quality standard. I think I really succeeded into creating my best EP yet and this EP is absolutely my favorite! If you’re interested check out: http://www.beatport.com/release/the-distortion-multiverse-ep/1374558

Name a few of your all time favourite tracks. (From other artists if you are producer).:
I’m a huge fan of Brainiac and I have learned so much from just listening to his music. If there’s one track I have to pick from his whole collection I would go for his remix on the Rinkadink track “Tanzmachien”. Every time I hear this track I just need to turn up the volume! There’s so much quality Psy-Trance that’s being produced nowadays that I couldn’t just pick a few tracks. I mainly focus on all the releases coming from Grasshopper, 24/7 and Catalyst Records. These labels keep releasing great stuff every time!

Flash-forward in time. You are now really old. What would you tell your children/loved ones?:
Keep improving yourself in every way you can. Keep educating yourself and take care of the earth.

Into the time machine again. What do you miss about being a kid?:
Lego!

Your opinions and viewpoints

Got any theories on how the universe blossomed into existence or on the rationale of life? Are we in the matrix? Did god knit a hologram?:
I’m not sure what to believe but I do believe it’s pretty self centered to think that we are the only intelligent beings in the universe. Also hard to believe is that millions of years of evolution has passed for us to be the final “product”. I’m sure us human beings just have a small impact on the future.

Advice for the readers and fans

At the end of the ride, everyone’s looking for some form of success (tangible or not), what does success mean to you?:
I think success means having an impact on people’s lives. For producers it can be that they made one song that’s connected to a wonderful experience someone had… It’s a hard question of course…
