Liquid Sound project was started by Branimir Dobeš years ago. At the beginning it was meant to be a fullon psytrance project, but after few years of experimenting with sounds, music styles & his own patience, project became much
more progressive.
Your life-story and relationship with your work
Tell us a little about you and your work:
I like to see myself as an artist in every segment of life, but before all – in music. I always felt music like a part of myself. At the age of 13 I started to play guitar and after that, with few friends, I started my first band. In high school I had punk-rock band. During 2000 I went on my first psytrance party and I was hooked on the sound of bass and bass lines but I didn’t start to make psytrance immediately. I played in one more band in my home town and then in 2003 I came to Belgrade to study graphic design and I started to make my first psytrance tracks here. I named my project “Liquid Sound”. One of the reasons was because I liked the music of Silicon Sound. In the beginning I tried to make fullon, but after few years I found myself trapped in slower and wider form of psytrance. And here I am now, a slave of basses, kicks, wide atmospheres and beautiful melodies 🙂
Currently what projects are you working on? And what future plans have you chalked out for yourself?:
At the moment, I am working on a new “Liquid Sound” album. I hope it will be released in the middle of November. On the other side, I am experimenting with a different sound in my new project “Etherica”. https://soundcloud.com/etherica-1 With my friend “Source Code” I am working on our common project “Liquid & Source”. We released our second EP for “Power House Records”. https://soundcloud.com/liquid-source And from time to time I work on my personal project “Liquid Blue”. https://soundcloud.com/blue-2 Together with my friends “Shogan” and “Ascent” I started a label – “Sting Records” and it’s sublabel “Hi-Trip Records”. https://soundcloud.com/sting-records https://soundcloud.com/hi-trip-records Plan for the future is affirmation of these labels in psytrance society all over the world and work on my music.
What influenced you to get into your field?:
Before all – my love for music.
As an artist, what role do you think you play in society?:
For me, music is a religion and anyone who makes it from the heart is a music priest, shaman, druid, healer… and I like to see myself as one of them. You can always feel what came from the heart and what came from commercial reasons.
You obviously love what you do…but what do you love the most about your work?:
The first is my freedom. I’m working from home without bosses, without annoying people, rarely I have deadlines… I know that this is a perfect job for me and I appreciate this gift that I got. The second reason is sharing of that gift and energy with people all around the world. No matter of color of skin, religion, nationality… everybody can enjoy in this energy and love.
Creating on a regular basis can be a bloody tough job, so what motivates you to press yourself into the workstation every single day?:
Well, I don’t work every day. Sometimes I need to take a rest from creating music or the other job that I do – graphic design. Then I go somewhere in nature, or I go to hang out with my friends and to play guitar or I enjoy the quality time with my girlfriend. But after few days I just have to sit and to make some new tunes. I don’t know how to call that condition, but if I don’t make music, I’m down and depressed.
Everybody has to start somewhere, usually at the bottom of the ladder, either as the bus-boy or the shoe-shiner. What was the very first job you had?:
My first job was in drug factory in my home town, Vršac.
What is your second love? What’s the alternative career path you would have travelled if you were not on the one you are right now?:
Graphic design and illustration.
Share your experiences and your characteristics/personality
No man is an island’- they say, in this light, what quality do you admire the most in others?:
The thing that I like most about myself is that I don’t give up from what I love. Also I think I know what my limits are and I’m always giving myself space to rest and to absorb new informations and to go forward improved.
Sometimes life can be quite a – insert word that rhymes with witch. Which phase was the hardest/scariest in your life?:
Glitch? There were hard and scary times, I would rather not talk about that. We all have or had that, some of us worse, some sooner, some will have later, but what’s count is that we are still here and we are still fighting.

There’s a book on the shelf. It’s your autobiography. What does the title say?:
Dream and reality – balance through dedication.
Flash-forward in time. You are now really old. What would you tell your children/loved ones?:
I would say them to always believe in yourself, to believe in their dreams and to fight for them, but always to know who they are and where they came from. When you do what you love and when you love what you do – life has sense.
Into the time machine again. What do you miss about being a kid?:
Before of all – simplicity. When we are older we always find way to complicate things. We care about the rules and unimportant things and we burden ourselves with nonsense. To children everything is new and interesting.

The power of regeneration.
The genie comes out of the lamp and grants you one wish that will change the world. What would you wish for?:
I would wish that people start to think for themselves, to work more on themselves and to be on their own identities. In consciousness and objectivity.
Your opinions and viewpoints
Got any theories on how the universe blossomed into existence or on the rationale of life? Are we in the matrix? Did god knit a hologram?:
Well, I think that we all vibrate on some level. I think that the universe is consisted from vibrations and that we have a task to learn how to raise the level of vibration in our lives and to live in the rhythm of the universe. We need to learn how to use the energies and how to control them so we can have balance and peace in our lives.

Dishonesty.

Your relationship with psychedelics
Creativity and psychedelics work together. Do you agree? Why/Why not?:
For me it was always “sometimes”. But in the last few years, I don’t need any of these stimulants to help me to be creative. I like to wake up early and feel the day with clear thoughts.
Are you pro-weed culture? Why do you think the majority of the population goes against the green?:
Yes, I’m pro-weed culture. People are against the green because of the propaganda. I’ve never seen anyone aggressive when under the influence of weed and hemp can be used for a lot of good things (in health industry, in nutrition, in paper industry…).
Advice for the readers and fans
At the end of the ride, everyone’s looking for some form of success (tangible or not), what does success mean to you?:
For me, success is when you do what you love and when you live from that.
