Abolish Drug Laws: Advancing Drug Policy Reform, or Follow the leaders!
The report by the Global Commission on Drug Policy (Kofi Annan and others) calls for a new approach to decriminalization. The report recommends the abolishment of the death penalty for all drug-related offenses, the abolishment of all penalties for drug possession, personal use, and cultivation for personal consumption. Criminalizing people who use drugs would be ineffective and harmful, and undermine the principle of human dignity and the rule of law. Therefore, states should implement alternatives to punishment and UN member states remove the penalization of drug possession altogether.
