Marco Scherer aka Datacult
Filmmusik machen ist der Traum vieler Produzenten. Dass man dafür nicht gleich ein ganzes Orchester ins Wohnzimmer bestellen muss, sondern Soundtracks eben so gut im heimischen Wohnzimmerstudio entwerfen kann, beweist der Odenwälder Marco Scherer, dessen Sound in der Neuauflage eines Science-Fiction Klassikers zu hören ist.
Blockbuster ohne eigenen Soundtrack sind heutzutage kaum noch vorstellbar. Musik und Bilder verschmelzen zu einer geladenen Atmosphäre, die den Betrachter fasziniert und in ihren Bann zieht. Doch hat sich die Klangästhetik in den letzten Jahren stark verändert und auch elektronischer Musik abseits von Dramen und Klassik den Einzug auf die Leinwand gewährt. Vor allem in der Werbung sind Techno und Dubstep mittlerweile Dauergäste. Spätestens seit Filmen wie Matrix und Berlin Calling ist der neue Sound aber auch im ganz großen Kino angekommen.
Erfreulicherweise stehen nicht nur große Konzerne oder hochprofessionelle Studios hinter dem Soundtrack, auch Werke aus heimischen Kleinstudios bekommen ihre Chance. So geschehen bei Marco Scherer, der einen Song seines Musikprojektes Datacult in der Neuauflage von “Cyborg” unterbringen konnte. Die Hauptrolle in diesem Klassiker aus den späten 80ern spielt der belgische Schauspieler Jean-Claude van Damme.
Dabei ist der Brensbacher Produzent mit seinem Sound nicht einmal auf Filme spezialisiert. “Einer der Schauspieler kommt aus Deutschland und ist schon seit Jahren großer Fan meiner Musik. Während der Dreharbeiten der Neuauflage hatte er die Vision von einem düsteren, elektronischen Soundtrack und fragte mich, ob ich diese Idee nicht umsetzen wolle. Ich war sofort Feuer und Flamme und so kam eins zum andern” erzählt Marco Scherer. Da seine Musik überwiegend auf die Tanzfläche und späte Abendstunden ausgelegt ist, klingt das Ergebnis entsprechend energetisch, trifft aber vollends den Geschmack des Regisseurs.
“Eigentlich produziere ich mit Psytrance einen Sound, der wegen seiner Härte und Intensität für gewöhnlich nicht in Filmen zu hören ist. So freue ich mich um so mehr, auf der selben Treppe wie meine Kollegen von Juno Reactor zu stehen, die einen Song bei Matrix beigesteuert haben. Zwar ist Matrix weitaus bekannter als Cyborg, aber mein nächster Soundtrack ist ja auch schon in der Mache” scherzt der Datacult Produzent. Psytrance goes Hollywood with Datacult.
Making music for the movies is the dream of many producers. But this doesn’t always require a whole Orchestra based in your living room. In fact you can produce soundtracks in your little homestudio, which Marco Scherer proves by contributing music to the remake of the science-fiction classic “Cyborg”.
Blockbusters without an own soundtrack are very rare these days. Usually music and pictures melt into a thrilling atmosphere, a total fascination for the audience. But the sound aesthetics have changed seriously over the past years and opened the doors for electronic music, apart from dramas and classical epics. Especially in adverts Techno and House became common. With movies like Matrix and Berlin Calling the new sound has reached the big screen.
But not only big companies and highly professional studios are the behind the scenes, also homestudios get their chance to produce soundtracks. A reason why Marco Scherer could contribute a track of his project Datacult in the remake of “Cyborg”, a science-fiction movie from the late 80ies featuring Jean-Claude van Damme as the leading character.
Although the German producer isn’t specialized on movies his sound was approved. “One of the actors lives in Germany and is a fan of my music since years. During the filming he had the vision of a dark, electronic soundtrack and asked me, if it was possible to realize the idea. I was hooked instantly” says Marco Scherer. As his music is usually made for the dancefloor and late-night hours the result is very energetic, absolutely in tune with the directors’ taste.
“I produce Psytrance music which is normally not the directors first choice due to its intensitiy. The more I’m excited to stand on the same stairway with Juno Reactor, who contributed a song to Matrix. For sure, Matrix is better known than Cyborg but my next soundtrack is already in the making” the Datacult producer jokes.
