Yes, those are important factors – but hands down: What attracts you most to the dance floor is the sound of a big, phat bass line. The same goes for the opposite sex, as scientists found out recently: Bass is sexy.
When we encounter an attractive person we turn up the bass. Men as well as women lower their voices when talking to somebody they perceive to be sexy. That’s the result of a study carried out by British and Czech scientist. Curious detail: Obviously men lower their voice only when talking to a women they find hot, whereas women lower their voice when talking to attractive men or when there are other females around they regard to be competitors.
The scientists recorded the voices of Czech men talking to women in their native language. They then played these recordings to British women who did not understand the actual content, and asked them to rate the voices in terms of sexiness. What they found was that the ladies gave much higher ratings to the voices of those men who talked to women they perceived to be attractive. Obviously low sound frequencies are a medium of flirtation that is understood even beyond language skills.
