During his last days in office the last US president Obama has commuted the sentences of scores of federal prisoners, overwhelmingly drug offenders.
Between January 17 and January 19, he commuted 330 sentences, virtually all were nonviolent drug offenders, very many of which who had been incarcerated for crimes involving crack cocaine, and were predominantly African-Americans. Over all Obama has commuted 1,715 sentences, which far exceeds the number of commutations granted by any president.
